Taqiya

Taqiya is much criticized by modern western critics. According to western critics, taqiya is just a way for Muslims to deceive non-muslims. Although it is not entirely true. Muslims can not use taqiya in every situation. There are some rule and conditions that they need to follow.

“Lies (taqiyya) are allowed if a person faces war or a grave situation of life and death.

A common example of takiya (taqiyyah, taqiya) involves a Muslim (Ammar B. Yasir, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, p) being forced to worship idols and insult the Prophet of Islam.

The level of force the polytheists applied on Ammar bin Yasir can be imagined by Amr bin Maymoon’s statement, “The polytheists tortured Ammar with fire”.

“Abu Ubaydah bin Muhammad bin Ammar bin Yasir said: The polytheists seized Ammar and they did not let him off until he was forced to insult the Messenger of Allah and say good things about their deities”

Ammar bin Yasir told Prophet Muhammad (p) of what he was forced to say.

“The Prophet (p) said: “Say it again if they ask (i.e. force) you to do so”.”

So, in order to avoid such torture the Prophet allowed Ammar bin Yasir to use “taqiyya”

Tabari says on Sura 16:106 (Tafsir, Bulak 1323 sqq.24.122): If any one is compelled and professes unbelief with his tongue, while his heart contradicts him, to escape his enemies, no blame falls him on him, because God takes his servants as their hearts believe”

A married person can also use taqiya to strengthen his/her marital relationship. For example a person can call his/her spouse beautiful, even if he/she is not looking beautiful.

If none of the above conditions exist, then lying is prohibited.
“O you who believe, fear Allah and be with those who are true [in words and deeds] (surah tawbah 9:119)
“Most hateful is it in the sight of Allah, that you say what you do not do” (61:4)

So takiya (taqiyyah, taqiyya) is not used to convert folk to Islam nor is it used in Islamic text books or anything of such a nature. It is simply a form of concealment used to avoid persecution!

Taqiya is also a part of Christianity.

3-  Did Jesus practice Taqiya?

Yes, if you read Bible, you'll find out that even Jesus practiced taqiya. He told his brothers that he won't go to the festival but he went secretly. Even Jesus lied in order to avoid any kind of danger to his life.

Jesus Goes to the Festival of Tabernacles
1 After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want [a] to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.
2 But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near,
3 Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do.
4 No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.”
5 For even his own brothers did not believe in him.
6 Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do.
7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil.
8  You go to the festival.   I am not [b] going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.”
9 After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.
10 However, after his brothers had left for the festival,  he went also, not publicly, but in secret.
11 Now at the festival the Jewish leaders were watching for Jesus and asking, “Where is he?”
12 Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.”
13 But no one would say anything  publicly about him for fear of the leaders
